Renter hit the bricks!

You can't help but think about the housing market whether or not you are in real estate or not. The word " foreclosure" has become part of our every day vocabulary. And how sad it is, peoples hopes and dreams have been terminated. Nobody wants it to happen and it's not the kind of thing you plan for. The victims come in all shapes and sizes including the displaced pets that can not be taken along with the other family possessions.

In the last year I've helped three families find new homes. Not because there were behind in their payments, their landlords were late in their payments. The tenants claimed to be paying on time every time but none the less they were being booted out of their homes. My latest home buyer (ex-renter)  decided to make a temporary move immediately. The landlord said she could stay, no problem but the tenant didn't want to be there when the sheriff knocked on the door. Imagine, being kicked out of your home due to no fault of your own.

I draw no conclusions to this predicament. It just seems so unfair.

Meet Canon City Business owner Brenda King!

Please meet Brenda King of Canon City Colorado! Brenda is the founder of the Canon City Business Owners meet and greet. Brenda is one of those people you are always happy to see. When I started this series of blog posts about meeting Canon City neighobors there was no doubt in my mind Brenda had to be one of my interviews.

.................................................

1) What brought you to Canon City or are you a native?

I am a native of Canon City - I was born here.  Yes!  I admit it freely!  I had the opportunity to travel and lived in Europe for 3 years.  I chose to return to Canon city because of the small town environment and to be with my parents.

2) What do you like or dislike about Canon City?

My favorite thing about Canon City is the people.  Most people I have an opportunity to speak to are willing to have a conversation with a stranger! I believe people are basically "good" and just need/want a chance to have their voice heard by another.   Right now, women's clothing stores are extremely scarce.  I am passionate about supporting small businesses that are locally owned, but currently there are very few stores that meet that criteria.  I am saddened by this because it forces me as a consumer to shop either out of town or online.

 3) I've know many people in your line of work but you are by far the most enthuseastic person I've ever met who represents a Pre Paid Legal Service. Why do you like your job so much?

My passion comes from the fact that I am able to help ordinary folks like you and me gain access to the legal system.  Our legal system is broke and difficult to migrate.  This means we require an attorney to access it.  Having the best attorney firm in Colorado in my corner, I feel as if I can't be taken advantage of.  I love sharing this empowerment with others!  Since we partnered with Kroll a few years ago, I am also excited to help people with identity theft.  Most folks will spend 600 plus hours, as well as thousands of dollars, to try and repair a breach of their identity.  I also enjoy educating others about identity theft - because there are five areas of identity theft and it isn't just financial.

4) What other jobs have you had in your life?

My background is administrative support.  I have functioned as a receptionist as well as an executive secretary.  I am also a veteran of the armed forces.

5) If you could improve anything about Canon City what would it be?

I think it is true of any organization, or municipality, that the adage "We've always done it this way" sometimes becomes its mantra.  I think that change is good, if it is well thought out and all view points are discussed.  I think Canon City could be more open to ideas about improvements in our locale.

..................................

I'd like to thank Brenda for her time and support with this interview. Brenda and her husband Patrick can be contacted via their web site www.legal-king.net. We are very fortunate to have neighbors like this in Canon City!
