I've been book MeMe'd by Ann Heitland, Associate Broker, CRS, GRI , ABR ~ Flagstaff Real Estate/Community . If you haven't' taken the time to read Ann's blog, please take the time. Ann is a great inspiration for localism posts. And thank you for this opportunity to share.

So here it is, rules and all :

1. Grab the nearest book*.

2. Open the book to page 56.

3. Find the fifth sentence.

4. Post the text of the next two to five sentences.

5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book or the intellectual one. Pick the closest.

6. Tag five people to do the same    *The Bible is not allowed

I'm one of those people who usually have more than one book open at a time. The two sitting nearest me now are:

Price It Right. Too low a price will mean you are giving away dollars that are rightfully yours. You want a realistic price that gives you an advantage over your competition in creating interest in your property. You should then hold to your price with only minor concessions.

Kenny D's adult bedtime storybook. Unlock your beliefs, experience your own truths. Kenny D

However, as we conceptualize the tenets of Christianity, many of us need to now have the freedom of expression and individual interpretation of our experiences so we can form a new and more balanced consciousness in our lives. I believe many of the miracles of the past will begin to happen again once we are let free to pursue our own truths under our churches umbrella of influence.

200,000 and it's about time!

Today (11-18-08) at approx 2:30 my time I hit 200,000 points on Active Rain and it's about time. You see I started here the first month Active Rain started. But shortly afterward I contacted one of the Active Rain gods and asked to be completely deleted. (Silly lady). And I started up on Active Rain again in October.

The points are mine, I've invited a few to join but few have and fewer have started a blog. And as many have said before, I didn't have a clue what I was doing. I've learned so much here and have so much more to learn. I'm grateful to all the first bloggers here on Active Rain, I've learned so much from you. I've made great friends, referrals and clients.

Thank you ~ Dena

Learn the Demographics of your neighborhood

Now that I have your attention: I've been learning about the demographics of my neighborhood in a different kind of way. My neighbors and I have been on our local county roads picking up trash. What a way to learn what's going on and who's paying attention.

Every Tuesday morning several neighbors and I go out and pick up the most surprising stuff: Lots and lots of Jim Beam bottles, Miller bottles and Misty cigarettes. We've found car floor mats, mattresses, tires, shoes, formula cans and general debris. And beer bottles are in prairie dog holes. (I have my doubts that the local wild life is pulling the bottles in on themselves.) As we walk the ½ mile or so each week it takes about an hour. And we get lots of people slowing down and maybe even waving. We even got a volunteer or two. The five full yard bags each week are divided into cans, glass, plastic and other. Each one of us takes responsibility for one bag.

From this weekly task of trash -

  • I've learned I have great neighbors who are willing to go out and pick up trash. Actually, they started and I joined in.
  • I've learned that some local residents should be watched when driving.
  • I've learned my local county commissioner is going to try and help us out with trash bags, sheriff drive bys and hidden cameras.
  • I now know where the local "party" spot is and what area to avoid
  • I know of the possibility of a new rotary club coming to Florence CO.

So much for an expensive demographic presentation from some out of town company or local entity. I know what my neighbors are doing.

The Critter and Castle Sitting Transaction Broker

The listing agent said she had to be present for all showings at the sellers request. The sellers have a nervous bird. So apparently, the LA has a special way with birds and forgot to mention te  his on the agent notes at the bottom of the MLS. When we arrived at the property she met us at the door and introduced herself and then couldn't shout up!

"Are you looking for this type house?"

"Do you want a house in this other neighborhood?"

"Did you know...."

"I have a house listed over...."

"What about...."

At the end of the day I emailed all the involved agents - feedback for each showing. (This way they don't have to hunt me down and my memories of each is fresh.) And I mentioned to the bird watching agent that we would like to go back, but with out her supervision.

"Well, I'll talk to the owners.........but they like me there at the house." Listing agent

"Well, don't you think you should disclose this?" Me

"No, I'm only a transaction broker." Listing agent

"What?" Me

Summary: The fact that the Listing Agent is a Transaction Broker must be a factor in her trying to sell us every other listing she has listed! And being a T.B. is a big factor in her house sitting for birds.

I think there was a bird in this ambush!
